Make Your Own (Toxin Free!) Clay Paint – An Evening Workshop

A hands-on evening workshop, where you will learn recipes, what ingredients to use, try it out mixing your own colours and head home with the tools to get started on your own project.

We will be working on sample boards which you will be able to take home with you. There will be plenty of time to mix different colours, experiement by adding different things to your paint like straw and mica, and work with stencils to create unique designs.

For less than the cost of a gallon of paint, learn to make your own!

Perhaps you are trying to make the right decision for you and your family’s health, at the same time trying to be mindful of your environmental impact, all while balancing your budget.

This course is the perfect combo: learn to make beautiful, healthy, durable clay paints, from super affordable ingredients.

Why You:
1. You want something that is unique, beautiful, healthy and that you can do yourself.
2. You want to avoid the chemicals in conventional paint, but you also don’t want to spend a fortune.
3. Having the added benefits of clay in your home to help buffer moisture (and there- fore molds), create a more comfortable in- door climate, is just icing on the cake.

We will spend the evening getting our hands dirty, learning what is involved in making your own clay based paint.

To answer some questions you might be thinking:

  • Yes, clay paint can easily be applied over drywall!

  • It is also durable and wipeable. We will go over some techniques you can use to get the most out of your paint, including a simple casein (milk protein) wash.

  • It can be any colour you want it to be

  • It dries fast

Some reasons that clay paint would be right for you:

  • You are looking to spruce up your living space, but you haven't done so because you haven't found a product that matches your deep commitment environmental responsibility (or budget!)
  • The thought of smelling VOC's (volatile organic compounds – the chemicals that give paint it's nasty smell) from your freshly painted walls for weeks makes you a bit nauseous

  • Having the added benefits of clay in your home to help buffer moisture (and therefore molds), create a more comfortable indoor climate, is just icing on the cake. Check out this video of Ashley speaking on the added benefits of clay

We will cover how to mix and apply paint, how to store extra clay paint should small repairs down the road be necessary, proper tool selection and most importantly ingredients and recipes! Because this is a hands on learning experience, you will be creating a sample board of your work from the evening to take home with you.

There will be ingredients on hand available for purchase so that you can get started on your clay paint project right away!
