Each year, through our partnership with 1% for the Planet, we donate a portion of all of our sales to local grassroots environmental organizations doing important work locally and around the world. We’ve been a proud member of this network of progressive businesses, committing at least 1% of all sales to environmental organizations, since October 2013. Though our business is firmly committed to leaving this world a better place than we found it, empowering people to create healthy, beautiful, ecological, and affordable shelter (thereby creating the circumstances so that they too can put their energy into meaningful work!) we understand that this cannot be done alone.
Though as modest as 1% may seem, in the context of businesses already providing leadership in using business to do good, this is just one more way that we can help nudge everything back into balance. Just how much? Well, collectively, 1% For the Planet is responsible for directing more than 100 million dollars to 3,300 not for profits. We think that’s a good thing to be part of.
As much as we’ve tried to create a business that is part of the solution, we remain endlessly grateful to the tens of thousands of people working on the front lines of environmental issues, holding governments, corporations, and individuals to account, while creating the space for meaningful dialogue on tough but vitally important subjects.
It is in this spirit that we’re excited to announce that we are supporting 2 amazing organizations: the Dogwood Initiative (standing up for BC’s coastline) and CAWST – the Centre for Affordable Water and Sanitation Technology. (through education empowering communities around the world with the knowledge and skills to be able to access clean water and sanitation). Be sure to check out the outstanding work that each of these organizations is doing and support them in any way you can.
As Paul Hawken said, “nonprofit organizations can be seen as humanity’s immune response to toxins like political corruption, economic disease, and ecological degradation.” And thank you to everyone who has invested in our work over the years, as it is your commitment that allows us to support these inspiring organizations!
